Praise for Trump’s mediation on Pakistan-India dispute
At the first meeting of the Board of Peace, Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump for his “mediation” in the dispute between India and Pakistan. He said, “You saved millions of lives by your timely intervention. You are truly a man of peace and the messiah of the people of South Asia.”
Former US President Donald Trump reiterated his role to resolve the dispute between Pakistan and India in 2024. Trump claimed that he had threatened to impose “200 percent tariffs” to prevent war between the two countries, which calmed the dispute. He also said that he had called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and put pressure on him to stop the war between the two countries.
India has rejected Trump’s claims, and said that the decision for the ceasefire in 2024 was taken by mutual consent, through the DGMO (Directors General of Military Operations), without any third party interference. India also clarified that any issue with Pakistan will be resolved by mutual consent between the two countries, including issues related to Jammu and Kashmir.
