US Special Envoy Sergio Gor: US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gore will visit Sri Lanka and Maldives from March 19 to 24 for high-level meetings aimed at promoting cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. The visit comes weeks after the US attack off the coast of Sri Lanka on March 4, in which the US warship Iris Dena was destroyed. Ambassador Gore will meet other senior leaders during his visit to Sri Lanka.

During this, Gore will reaffirm the importance of the US-Sri Lanka relationship and strengthen cooperation in specific areas. According to the information shared by the US, the main purpose of Gore’s visit is to further support America’s efforts to protect sea lanes and safe ports and to strengthen mutually beneficial trade and commercial relations.

The US State Department said regarding Sergio Gore’s visit, this visit of Sergio Gore will advance a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific for the benefit of the people of our two countries. In the Maldives, Gore will meet with senior government officials to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to the bilateral relationship, advance security cooperation, and explore opportunities to support the Maldives’ efforts to boost critical infrastructure and grow its economy.

They will also explore opportunities to support the island nation’s efforts to develop critical infrastructure and expand its economy. The visit also marks 60 years of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Maldives. The note also said the US values ​​“our enduring partnership with Sri Lanka and the Maldives” and “their shared commitment to regional security and stability.”
