USA beats Netherlands to keep Super 8 dream alive in T20 World Cup

The United States produced a tremendous all-round performance to beat the Netherlands by 93 runs in their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group A encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on February 13, sealing their first T20I win over the Dutch team and reviving their Super 8 qualification hopes.

Losing the toss and electing to bat first, USA scored 196/6 in 20 overs. Debutant Saiteja Mukkamalla took charge of the innings by scoring 79 runs (5 fours, 4 sixes) in 51 balls. Opener Shayan Jahangir (20) and captain Monak Patel (36) gave a good start and made USA’s highest powerplay total (53/1) in T20 World Cup history. Shubham Ranjane scored unbeaten 48 runs on 24 balls and took the score close to 200. Bas de Leede was NED’s best bowler with 3/37.

Defending 197 runs, the USA bowlers troubled the Dutch team. Nostush Kenjige took a wicket with his first ball, while left arm spinner Harmeet Singh (Player of the Match) took 4/21, dismissing Max O’Dowd, Bas De Leede and captain Scott Edwards. Shadley van Schalkwyk took 3 wickets and Mohammad Mohsin took 2 wickets, as NED were all out for 103 runs in 15.5 overs—losing three wickets in the powerplay itself and never recovering amid regular breakthroughs and mounting pressure.

This emphatic win is a historic milestone for USA Cricket and boosts their Super 8 hopes, leaving them third in Group A with a better net run rate. With momentum building, the team is hoping to perform well in the remaining matches to advance further in the tournament.
