Pace of Pawan Kalyan’s film slows down before Dhurandhar 2 – Obnews
Pawan Kalyan’s action-comedy **Ustad Bhagat Singh**, directed by Harish Shankar and also starring Sreeleela and Raashi Khanna in pivotal roles, continued to trend downwards at the box office on its sixth day (Tuesday, March 24, 2026). According to Sacnilk estimates, the film, which had a direct competition with Ranveer Singh’s blockbuster **Dhurandhar 2**, earned around **₹1.75 crore nett** in India, while the occupancy in theaters dropped to around **19%**.
After six days, the film’s **net collection in India** is approximately **₹64.60 crore**, while the gross collection in India is approximately **₹76 crore**. Overseas markets have contributed approximately **₹10.4 crore gross**, taking the **worldwide total gross collection** to approximately **₹86.47 crore**. The figures for the sixth day show an even greater decline in the film’s momentum, while on Monday there was a sudden sharp decline and it reached ₹2.50 crore.
**Net collections in India by day (Sacnilk estimates)**:
– Day 1 (March 19, Ugadi holiday): ₹34.75 crore (audience attendance ~69%)
– Day 2: ₹9.00 crore (36%)
– Day 3: ₹9.10 crore (36%)
– Day 4 (Sunday): ₹7.50 crore (32%)
– Day 5 (Monday): ₹2.50 crore (20%)
– Day 6 (Tuesday): ₹1.75 crore (19%)
The film had a decent start, but failed to maintain its momentum over the weekend and the rest of the week. The main reason for this was the tough competition from **Dhurandhar 2**. Meanwhile, **Dhurandhar 2** has collected ₹575 crore nett in India and around ₹920 crore worldwide. Mixed reviews and reduced number of screens in important theaters have also had an impact on viewership. **Comparison with Pawan Kalyan’s recent films**:
– **Hari Hara Veera Mallu** (2025) collected ₹74–82 crore nett in its first four-five days.
– **OG** (They Call Him OG) achieved even higher opening figures (according to some reports, net collection of more than ₹130 crore in the opening week itself).
**Ustad Bhagat Singh** is a Telugu action-comedy film, which marks Pawan Kalyan’s second collaboration with director Harish Shankar after the 2012 hit film **Gabbar Singh**. Originally announced as **Bhavadiyadu Bhagat Singh** in 2021, the film’s name was later changed. In this film R. Parthiban, Ashutosh Rana, Nawab Shah and other actors have played supporting roles.
Despite star power and tremendous popularity in small towns and single-screen centres, the film is struggling to collect ₹100 crore nett in India. It looks like if there is not a huge jump in its earnings over the weekend, its total lifetime collection will be quite low. Trade analysts believe that mixed word-of-mouth and challenges in screen allocation due to the dominance of **Dhurandhar 2** have played an important role in the film’s performance.
