Uttar Pradesh Break Record for Highest Run-Chase in Indian Domestic Cricket | Read

A historic moment unfolded in a U-23 State A Trophy one-day match, as Uttar Pradesh’s U-23 team achieved the remarkable feat of chasing down the highest target ever in an Indian domestic one-day game, reaching 407 runs to defeat Vidarbha by eight wickets at the GSFC Cricket Ground in Vadodara.

Uttar Pradesh not only accomplished this impressive target but did so decisively, completing their chase in just 41.2 overs. The standout performer was Sameer Rizvi, who distinguished himself in the age-group competition with a second double century within just a few days, marking his fourth century in six matches during this tournament. Rizvi’s impressive innings of 202* steered UP to victory in this encounter.

The BCCI highlighted that this was the highest successful chase recorded in Indian domestic one-day history, surpassing the previous record of 390 runs achieved by Bengal’s women’s team against Haryana earlier this month, as well as the 384 runs chased down by Andhra Pradesh against Goa, which was the record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Rizvi’s journey came after being dropped from Uttar Pradesh’s senior Vijay Hazare Trophy squad due to a lacklustre performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored only 136 runs in 8 matches. However, he has been in exceptional form since taking on the captaincy for the U-23 team, capping off a stellar week with an unbeaten 202* off just 105 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and an astonishing 18 sixes.

He received valuable support from openers Shaurya Singh and Swastik, who contributed to a rapid 106-run partnership in just 10.4 overs to set the tone. Wicketkeeper and number three batter Shoaib Siddiqui played a crucial supporting role, scoring a solid 96* off 73 balls, and together with Rizvi formed an unbroken partnership of 296 runs, comfortably sealing the win for the team.
