Dehradun: Following the incident of spitting in a tea vessel in Mussoorie, there has been widespread agitation in Uttarakhand. Afterwards, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken a strict stance on the matter, directing the DGP to take stringent action against those involved. He has also called for a verification campaign in hotels and dhabas.

Following his orders, Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar has instructed all police officials to immediately register cases for such incidents and arrest the accused. The Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) will also monitor these activities across the state.

LIU has also been asked to remain active in such cases

Additionally, the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) has been tasked with monitoring incidents involving street vendors. DGP Abhinav Kumar issued instructions on Tuesday, noting that recent viral videos show spitting in food items at hotels and vendor stalls. In response to an incident in Mussoorie, Dehradun police registered a case and arrested two individuals.

Police have been authorized to register cases in these matters

Although such cases typically fall under the health and food safety department, opposition from various social organizations often arises. Therefore, to maintain law and order, the police have been authorized to register cases in these matters as well. Immediate action is required from the police in their respective areas upon receiving such information.

DGP issued the following guidelines

-Hotel and dhaba operators must complete 100% verification of their workers and employees.

-Operators should be encouraged to install CCTV cameras in the kitchen.

-Attention should be paid to such incidents during patrolling.

-From time to time, police should check hotels and dhabas in collaboration with the food safety department.

-In such cases, a case should be filed under the Police Act and Section 274 (food adulteration) of the BNS.

-If there is a possibility of heated altercations or communal clashes, a case may be filed under BNS 196(1) (acts prejudicial to communal harmony) or BNS 299 (insulting religious belief).
