Uttarakhand: When the teacher did not reach the school, the students themselves distributed the papers and answer sheets and took the exam.

What could be a bigger proof of the poor condition of the government education system than the fact that schools do not have teachers to even conduct examinations, leave alone teaching?

Its hallmark was seen in Junior High School Nelda of Jakhanidhar block of Tehri district, when 18 students took the examination of Mathematics and Arts subjects without the presence of teachers. Surprisingly, not a single teacher out of the two posted in the school was present to conduct the examination. However, now the education department is talking about taking action against negligent teachers and re-conducting the examination.

These days half yearly examinations are going on in Junior High School Nelda of Jakhanidhar block. On Wednesday, the examination of Mathematics and Arts subjects of students from class 6th to 8th was to be held, but no teacher reached the school. In such a situation, the children themselves started taking the examination by distributing question papers and answer sheets.

The teacher went to the hospital due to sudden ill health.

After solving the question paper, the children returned home, but the teachers still did not consider it necessary to reach school. Apart from Principal Pramod Rawat, a female teacher Biru Devi is also posted in this school. When the headmaster was asked the reason for his absence, he told that he had gone to the hospital due to sudden deterioration in his health. At the same time, teacher Biru Devi has joined Nelda after transfer from Junior High School, Samangaon, but is serving in Samangaon only.

Despite having two teachers in Junior High School Nelda, children have to appear for examinations without any education. This is an unfortunate situation and it also raises questions on the functioning of the education department. Strictness should be taken in this matter. – Manohar Lal, Head, Gram Panchayat Nelda

Information has been received that there was no teacher in the school. However, we had sent a teacher from a nearby primary school to Nelda on arrangements, but he also did not come to conduct the examination. An explanation has been sought from him. The examination will also be conducted again. – Monica Bam, Block Education Officer, Jakhanidhar

This matter has also come to my notice. If this has really happened then it is serious negligence. This matter will be investigated. – VK Dhoundiyal, District Education Officer (Elementary Education), Tehri

Half yearly examination became a joke

Kotdwar: The education department has turned the half-yearly examinations going on in government schools into a joke. In many schools, sufficient question papers are not arriving and in many other question papers are not being sent as per the schedule. In such a situation, students have to sit idle and wait for the question paper at the scheduled time for the examination. Teachers of schools located near the market are getting the examination done by making photocopies of the question paper.

Half-yearly examinations of secondary schools are going on in the state since October 21, but in many schools of Pauri district, irregularities are being seen in the question papers since the very first day. In a school, instead of the question paper of Biology subject of class 11th, English question was sent.
children have to wait for hours

In many schools, after receiving the question paper of a different subject, the education department is sending the PDF of the question paper to be held on that day. After this the teachers are downloading it and getting the photo copied from the market. In such a situation, children have to sit and wait outside the examination hall for hours.
In one school, students were not even given maps to solve map-based questions. In such a situation, maps had to be procured from other schools and distributed to the children.

However, Chief Education Officer (Pauri) Nagendra Barthwal says that the matter is not in his cognizance. Giving wrong question papers to children is a serious matter. The matter will be investigated. At whatever level the mistake has been committed, action will be taken against the concerned.
