US vs Europe: Europe united against America regarding Greenland, also responded to Trump’s tariff threat

Greenland Controversy: European countries seem to be united against the bullying behavior of US President Donald Trump regarding Greenland. The threats to impose tariffs have drawn criticism from the European Union, including Britain, France and Sweden. British PM Keir Starmer described the move as “completely wrong”, while French President Emmanuel Macron called it “unacceptable”.

In fact, US President Trump has announced that a 10 percent tariff will be imposed on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, Netherlands and Finland from February 1. This tariff can later increase to 25 percent and this will continue until an agreement is reached. Responding sharply to this, French President Macron wrote in X Post, “France is committed to the sovereignty and independence of countries in Europe and other parts of the world. This guides our decisions. This is the basis of our commitment to the United Nations and its Charter. It is on this basis that we support Ukraine, and will continue to do so, and we have created a coalition of countries willing to pursue a strong and lasting peace to protect these principles and our security. It is on this basis that we have supported Ukraine in Greenland.” “Decided to participate in the organized exercise.”

The French president further wrote, “We take full responsibility for this decision, because the security of the Arctic and the outer edges of our Europe is at stake. When we face such situations, no threats or pressure will sway us – neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world. Threats of tariffs are unacceptable and have no place in this context. If they are confirmed, European countries will respond in a united and coordinated manner. We will ensure that That European sovereignty remains intact. It is in this spirit that I will negotiate with my European partners.”

British PM Keir Starmer wrote in the Ax Post, “Our position on Greenland is very clear – it is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and its future is a matter for the people of Greenland and the Danish people. We have also been clear that Arctic security matters to all of NATO and that all allies must do more together to counter the threat posed by Russia in different parts of the Arctic. It is simply wrong to impose tariffs on allies for the sake of the collective security of NATO allies. We Will definitely take up this matter directly with the US administration.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also criticized Trump’s threat. They wrote, “Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law. They are essential for Europe and the entire international community. We have consistently emphasized our shared transatlantic interest in peace and security in the Arctic, including within NATO. The bespoke Danish exercise, conducted with allies, meets the need to strengthen Arctic security and poses no threat to anyone.”

He further wrote, “The EU stands in full solidarity with the people of Denmark and Greenland. Dialogue is essential, and we remain committed to moving forward the process started last week between the Kingdom of Denmark and the United States. The tariffs would undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous deterioration. Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to maintaining its sovereignty.”

Sweden’s PM Ulf Kristersson wrote, “We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed. Only Denmark and Greenland will decide on matters related to Denmark and Greenland. I will always stand up for my country and our fellow neighbours. This is an EU matter that affects far more than the countries that are now being targeted. Sweden is now in vigorous talks with other EU countries, Norway and the United Kingdom to respond together.” Is.”
