Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Scores One Of The Fastest IPL 50s
15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opening batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has scored a half-century at a strike rate over 300 while chasing a minuscule target against the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026.
Today’s RR vs CSK game is Match 3 of IPL 2026. The match is being played at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, and saw the Royals win the toss and decide to bowl first after it rained throughout the day over the ground.
On a damp pitch, RR ran riot over the Super Kings’ batting order. The opening duo of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and former RR captain Sanju Samson departed for cheap. Young No. 3 batter Ayush Mhatre was out for a golden duck. The likes of Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, and Matt Short failed to impress, while youngster Kartik Sharma hit a couple of boundaries but failed to capitalise.
At one point, CSK was 94/9. However, bowling all-rounder Jamie Overton scored 43 off 36 to take his team past the 100-run mark and to 127 runs before being all out in 19.4 overs.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Hits 15 Ball Fifty
Chasing a small target of 128, RR were the clear favourites as their opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi came out to bat. The two faced some problems early in their time at the crease.
On the first ball he played today, Sooryavanshi skied the ball. Kartik Sharma, who stood at mid-wicket, ran back to catch it but dropped it. Not only that, but then the ball rolled to the boundary line. On the next ball, the 15-year-old hit Matt Henry for a six.
Vaibhav batted the only way he knows how, in the fifth gear. The teenager dealt in boundaries until, in the sixth over of the powerplay, he reached his half-century in just 16 balls. This is by far the fastest 50 in IPL 2026 so far and will remain one of the fastest this season.
Not only that, but this is also the fifth-fastest half-century in IPL history. Only four men in history have reached this milestone faster than him in this league, with his opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, being the fastest, doing so in just 12 balls in 2023.
Vaibhav got out soon after, caught at deep cover. He was dismissed for 52 off 17 by Anshul Kamboj. By this time, RR was cruising at 75/2 in 6.2 overs, needing just 52 runs to win in 82 balls.
