Vaibhav Suryavanshi All set to make his senior India debut in the two-match T20I series against Ireland later this week. After the Ireland tour, the Indian team will travel to the UK for a five-match T20I series against England. Ahead of the series against England, the British media had reported that as per UK rules, Vaibhav would not be allowed to remain in the Indian dressing room at all times. He will be given his own separate changing room.

Why will Vaibhav get a separate changing room?

Initially it was believed that this was being done under the rules of ECB and ICC. Now it has emerged that Vaibhav’s need for a separate changing room is actually due to UK laws. The ICC has no involvement in this case, as the ICC does not have any specific rules for players under the age of 16. The series between India and England is not part of any ICC competition, but a bilateral series.

A source told Hindustan Times Digital, “Safety rules do not apply to bilateral series. The India vs England series is not an ICC competition and there are no specific rules for under-16 cricketers.”

We will ensure compliance with all regulations, but the BCCI will manage everything according to UK laws. Our procedures and policies are in line with UK best practices.”

Rules for players under 16 years of age

Earlier, according to a report in ‘The Guardian’, according to ICC and ECB rules, any player below the age of 16 will have to use separate facilities. Due to this rule, Vaibhav will be given his own changing room at each ground during the five T20Is against England. The report also said that Vaibhav will be allowed to stay in the Indian dressing room during matches and team meetings, but at other times he will have to use his own changing room designated by the ECB.
