Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player to be auctioned in IPL history on Monday, November 25, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Suryavanshi was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for a staggering Rs 1.10 crore after a competitive bidding war involving them and Delhi Capitals.

Recently, Suryavanshi scored the fastest century by an Indian in Under-19 Tests, reaching the milestone against Australia Under-19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The 13-year-old achieved this feat in just 58 balls during his first red-ball game for India Under-19.

His rapid century is second only to former England all-rounder Moeen Ali’s 56-ball hundred in 2005 for England Under-19. In his remarkable innings, Vaibhav struck 14 boundaries and 4 sixes. Previously, in January 2024, he debuted in first-class cricket as the fourth-youngest Indian at 12 years and 284 days during the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 against Mumbai led by Shams Mulani.

In the 2023 Cooch Behar Trophy, playing for Bihar, Suryavanshi scored 151 runs off 128 balls against Jharkhand, including 22 fours and three sixes, and added 76 in the second innings. He also participated in a quadrangular series with India U19 A and B, England U19, and Bangladesh U19, scoring 53, 74, 0, 41, and 0.

Following his Ranji debut, his father, Sanjeev, expressed pride in Vaibhav’s participation in six major tournaments in 2023 and the opportunity to compete with renowned players like Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, and Dhawal Kulkarni.
