IPL mega auction: 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has created history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. This talented young cricketer from Tajpur village in Bihar was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 1.10 crore, making him the youngest player to be sold in the IPL. Suryavanshi's base price in the auction held at Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah on Monday was Rs 30 lakh, but tough bidding between Rajasthan and Delhi Capitals made him a millionaire.
Vaibhav's cricket career started at the age of four, and his hard work brought him great success at a young age. After his brilliant performance in Bihar cricket and Under-19 team, he was selected in the Ranji Trophy team. His entry in IPL has brought him into limelight across the country.
Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?
Born on 27 March 2011 in Tajpur village of Bihar, Vaibhav's cricket journey started at the age of just four years. His father, who is a farmer, seeing his passion for sports, built a practice field in the backyard of the house. At the age of nine, Vaibhav got admission in the Cricket Academy, where his cricket career progressed rapidly.
Joined India B Under-19 team at the age of 12
Suryavanshi participated in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy at the age of 12 and scored 400 runs in just five matches. After this, he was selected in the India B Under-19 team for the quadrangular series to be held in Andhra Pradesh in November 2023.
Place in Bihar's Ranji Trophy team
The performance in the series against Bangladesh and England was challenging for Vaibhav, due to which he could not be selected for the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024. However, he soon made a brilliant comeback in the Under-23 selection camp and made a place in Bihar's Ranji Trophy team. Vaibhav made his Ranji Trophy debut against Mumbai in January 2024. With this he became the youngest player in first-class cricket since 1986.
International recognition
Recently in October 2024, Vaibhav scored a century in 58 balls in the Under-19 Test against Australia. This was the fastest century by an Indian in Under-19 Test cricket and the second fastest century after England's Moeen Ali's 2005 record.
