New Delhi, 28 May 2026: Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks Chris Gayle’s old record The eliminator match of IPL 2026 was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. Rajasthan Royals entered Qualifier 2 by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 47 runs. Rajasthan Royals will play against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on 29th May. If Rajasthan Royals also wins this match, then they will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final on Sunday, May 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad is already out of the race for the finals.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke years old records

Last night in the eliminator match, 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals achieved a remarkable feat. No in-form batsman has been able to achieve this feat. In the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit 12 sixes, making his total record in the IPL season 65. Chris Gayle’s record of hitting 59 sixes in one season of IPL has now been broken.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is at the top of the list of players who have hit the most number of runs in a single IPL season. In the eliminator match, he was just three runs away from equaling Chris Gayle’s record. In fact, Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a vital role in helping Rajasthan Royals reach Qualifier 2. Scoring 97 runs in 29 balls is a big achievement, especially for a 15-year-old player.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi probably could not equal Chris Gayle’s record of fastest IPL century. However, his innings gave a significant boost to Rajasthan Royals. He and his team gave full cooperation in setting the huge target of 244 runs. Both his batting and bowling proved effective.

When Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out, everyone gave him a standing ovation. Kavya Maran also praised Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings. Sunrisers Hyderabad players were also respecting his innings. Vaibhav also won the Orange Cap after scoring 680 runs in the IPL 2026 season.
