BCCI hands over captaincy to Vaibhav Suryavanshi; Squad announced for South Africa tour and Under-19 World Cup

India’s U19 squad for South Africa tour and ICC Men’s U19 World Cup: India Under-19 team has been announced for the three-match ODI series against South Africa and ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup. In which the Junior Cricket Committee of BCCI has appointed explosive opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi as the captain for the South Africa tour, while Ayush Mhatre will lead the team in the Under-19 World Cup.

The ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15, 2026 to February 6, 2026. Before which the India U19 team will tour South Africa for a three-match ODI series in Benoni. Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra have suffered wrist injuries and will be out of the South Africa tour. Both players will report to the BCCI Center of Excellence for further treatment of their injuries and will join the squad for the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup.

In the absence of Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra, the team will be commanded by Vaibhav Suryavanshi on the South Africa tour, while Aaron George will be the vice-captain on this tour. Let us tell you that in the upcoming edition of U19 World Cup, there will be 16 teams, which will be divided into four groups, after which the Super Six stage, semi-finals and final will be held in Harare. Five-time champions India (2000, 2008, 2012, 2018 and 2022) have been placed in Group B along with New Zealand, USA and Bangladesh. India will begin their campaign against USA at the Queen’s Sports Club, Bulawayo on January 15, followed by matches against Bangladesh at the same venue on January 17 and New Zealand on January 24.
