According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Vaishakh is starting from 3 April 2026. This month is considered very sacred and fruitful in Sanatan Dharma. There is a religious belief that bathing, donating, chanting, penance and worshiping during this entire month brings special virtue. Especially donating water in this month is considered very auspicious, which brings happiness, peace and prosperity in life.

This year the month of Vaishakh will start from 3 April 2026 and end on 1 May 2026. It is the second month of the Hindu calendar and is considered extremely important from religious point of view. It is also called “Madhava month” in the scriptures, because it is especially dear to Lord Vishnu.

Importance of Vaishakh month

In Hindu religion, the month of Vaishakh is considered the best time to earn virtue. It is believed that the results of auspicious work done in this month increases manifold. Bathing in holy rivers, donating and worshiping Lord Vishnu gives results similar to Ashwamedha Yagya. According to mythology, in the month of Vaishakh, Lord Vishnu had assumed many incarnations, among which Nar-Narayan, Nrisimha and Lord Parashuram are prominent. Mother Sita was also born in this month. Therefore this month becomes even more special from the religious point of view.

How did Vaishakh get its name?

The months of the Hindu calendar are named on the basis of constellations. Vaishakh month is related to “Vishakha Nakshatra”, hence its name Vaishakh. The lord of this constellation is Devguru Jupiter, who is considered a symbol of knowledge and religion. This is the reason that religious activities done in this month provide eternal virtue.

Beliefs related to Vaishakh month

There is a special description of the glory of Vaishakh month in the scriptures. It has been said that just as Satyayuga is the best among the ages, Vedas are the best among the scriptures, similarly Vaishakh is considered the best among the months. According to another belief, Lord Vishnu had killed the demon named “Madhu” in this month, due to which this month is also called “Madhava month”. During this time, one gets special blessings by worshiping Lord Vishnu.
