Vance to lead ‘war on fraud’, Trump tells Congress
Vice-President JD Vance will spearhead what President Donald Trump described as a “war on fraud,” the US president announced during his State of the Union address to Congress.
Trump claimed there is “corruption that is plundering America” in four Democratic-led states — Minnesota, California, Massachusetts and Maine — and said Vance has been tasked with identifying and eliminating fraudulent practices that he argued are costing American taxpayers billions of dollars.
According to Trump, Vance’s crackdown has already been underway for the past four months. He suggested that rooting out large-scale fraud could have significant fiscal consequences, stating: “If we are able to find enough of that fraud, we will have a balanced budget overnight.”
The president framed the initiative as part of a broader effort to reduce government waste and strengthen federal finances, positioning the move as central to his administration’s economic agenda ahead of the midterm elections.
