Varanasi court seeks police report on complaint against Madhu Kishwar regarding X post on PM Modi

Bureau Prayagraj- A complaint has been filed in a court in Varanasi, in which educationist and writer Prof. A demand has been made to initiate criminal proceedings against Madhu Kishwar over her social media posts against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other political leaders. According to the complaint, Kishwar allegedly misused his verified social media accounts on X and other digital platforms to continuously spread misleading, false, inflammatory and defamatory content.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Varanasi has taken cognizance of the complaint, which sought direction to the police to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Kishwar for the allegedly defamatory post. The court has registered the matter as a miscellaneous case and has also sought a report from the police on the matter. The complaint in this case was filed by lawyer Shashank Shekhar Tripathi, convenor of the legal cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The complaint specifically alleged that certain posts made by Kishwar against the Prime Minister and other constitutional functionaries were highly misleading and could have a cascading effect on society. It was further argued that since Kishwar operates a verified social media account, her statements are likely to be considered more credible by the public, thereby increasing their impact and gravity.

The complaint also said that several legal notices were previously issued to Kishwar, asking him to prove his claims and alter or remove the allegedly objectionable content. However, he reportedly did not introduce any supporting material or make any improvements. It was argued that this is a repeated pattern of behavior on the part of Kishwar, aimed at creating confusion, discontent and discord in the society.

The complaint also raised concerns that such content could undermine public trust in institutions, affect communal harmony and pose a threat to law and order. On this basis, immediate legal intervention and registration of FIR was demanded. The court will hear this case on April 15, by which time the police is expected to submit its report.
