Varun Chakraborty is getting beaten, will Team India field Kuldeep Yadav against West Indies?

Today (March 1), the Indian team will face West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. This is the last match of Super-8. The team that wins this match will reach the semi-finals, while the journey of the losing team will stop here. In such a situation, it has become a virtual quarter-final match.

In this match to be played at the historic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata, a six-hitting competition can be seen between the batsmen of India and West Indies. If we look at the spin department of both the teams, West Indies looks strong. He has Akil Hussain, Gudakesh Moti and Roston Chase. There are Varun Chakraborty and Akshar Patel in the Indian team. Varun is the world number-1 bowler in the ICC rankings but his performance in the last two matches has raised concerns.

Varun Chakraborty is getting expensive

In the group stage, Varun was making the batsmen dance with his spin. But in the Super-8 stage he looked completely ordinary. Varun gave away 47 runs in 4 overs against South Africa in Ahmedabad. After this, Varun conceded 35 runs in 4 overs against Zimbabwe in Chepauk. He got 1-1 success in both these matches. The concern for the Indian team is not Varun’s economy, but the big shots he is getting easily.

Varun has hit 60 sixes in his T20 International career, out of which 20 sixes have been hit in the last 10 matches. He is not bowling on the open pitch or in the slot. Batsmen are hitting him for sixes by taking out his front foot, due to which Varun’s economy in the last 10 matches has been 8.47, whereas before this his career economy was 6.74.

Will Kuldeep get a chance?

Eden Gardens is, in a way, Varun’s home ground. He plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL, so he has enough experience of playing here. But seeing the way the batsmen are making his bowling ordinary, Kuldeep Yadav can be fielded in his place. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep has also played many matches for KKR at Eden Gardens. He got a chance to play only one match in this tournament. He was played against Pakistan in Colombo, in which he took 1 wicket for 14 runs in 3 overs.

India’s probable playing XI against West Indies:

India – Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan, Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakraborty/Kuldeep Yadav.
