Varun Chakravarthy Shines as India Seal 3–1 Series Win Over South Africa

A four-wicket haul from Varun Chakravarthy has guided India to secure a 30-run victory against South Africa in the 5th T20I match played on December 20 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

By this win, India secured a 3-1 series win in the T20I series, with India making a solid run in the preparations for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is to be played in February and March.

Batting first, India’s openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma made a decent start while Lungi Ngidi opened the bowling attack.

Abhishek Sharma went on to score 34 runs before losing his wicket to Corbin Bosch in the 6th over. By the end of the power play, India scored 67 runs for a wicket.

With Tilak Varma joining Samson, the latter lost his wicket to George Linde after scoring 37 runs. However, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav did not make an impact as he walked back to the dugout as Corbin Bosch dismissed SKY for 5 runs.

Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya joined hands and made a solid partnership of 95 runs, taking India’s total to 220 runs for the 4th wicket.

Hardik Pandya scored 63 runs off 25 deliveries before being dismissed by Ottneil Baartman. Soon after his dismissal, Tilak Varma lost his wicket on a runout for 73 runs off 42 deliveries, which included 10 fours and 1 six.

With Shivam Dube’s 10 runs, India went on to score 231 runs in their 20-over innings. In the pursuit of chasing 232 runs,

QD Kock and Reeza Hendricks made an aggressive start, but were not able to maintain the momentum as the latter got dismissed for 13 runs by Varun Chakravarthy.

The partnership between QD Kock and Dewald Brevis showed some glimpse of victory for South Africa, as the opener made his 19th T20I fifty and scored 65 runs off 35 deliveries.

However, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed de Kock in the 11th over as South Africa scored 120 runs during his dismissal.

With dismissal of Brevis for 31 runs, Miller added 18 runs before being walked back to the dugout.

Varun Chakravarthy did some cleanup in the middle order, dismissing Aiden Markram, Donovan Ferreira and Georgoe Linde cheaply.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah picked the wicket of Marco Jansen for 14 runs, Corbin Bosch added 17* runs to the scoreboard, but was not able to change the favour for their side.

By the end of 20 overs, South Africa scored 201 runs for 8 wickets, and India secured a 30-run victory, clinching the series 3-1.
