Despite fracture, Varun is playing matches for KKR, coach Shane Watson while giving information said this…
Got injured while fielding against Delhi Capitals
Kolkata. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Shane Watson praised India’s ‘mystery’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy who has been playing consistently in the Indian Premier League (IPL) despite suffering a hairline fracture in his left leg. Watson said Chakravarthy is eager to contribute to KKR’s campaign to stay in the IPL playoff race.
Chakraborty suffered the injury while fielding during KKR’s match against Delhi Capitals on May 8. Due to this, he could not play the next match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 13 May, after which head coach Abhishek Nair confirmed his fracture.
But after the loss to RCB, KKR needed to win the remaining matches so Chakravarthy came back to play in consecutive matches against Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians despite not being fully fit.
“I don’t know exactly what phase of rehab he is in at the moment,” Watson said after Wednesday’s four-wicket win over Mumbai Indians. All I know is that he is playing with a little bit of pain at the moment, which shows how brave he is, how eager he is to contribute for KKR and he is still bowling brilliantly.
Chakravarthy, the main man of India’s T20 spin bowling, had not been performing well since winning the T20 World Cup in March. In his first three IPL matches, he did not get any wicket and gave away 105 runs. This poor performance caused a lot of damage to KKR’s campaign in the beginning. But Chakraborty regained her rhythm in the last round of the tournament. Then he played an important role in the team’s comeback by taking 10 wickets in four matches.
