At present, the situation is bad due to pollution in many states of North India including the country’s capital Delhi. The government also took many steps to control pollution. However, even after this, no significant improvement has been seen in the air. Even after imposing all the restrictions, the overall AQI of Delhi remained above 387 on Friday, before which it was 373 on Thursday. During this period, challan action was also taken and entry of many types of vehicles in Delhi was stopped. This means that even after the restrictions, there does not seem to be any improvement in the air of Delhi.

In view of the increasing pollution in Delhi, many restrictions were announced by the government. Under this, only BS6 vehicles are allowed to enter the national capital from Thursday (December 18). Along with this, ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ campaign was also started.

Following the government order, over 3746 vehicles were challaned under the ‘No PUC, No Fuel’ campaign in Delhi on Thursday, while around 570 non-compliant or non-specified vehicles were sent back from Delhi borders within 24 hours. Joint teams of Delhi Traffic Police and Transport Department checked around 5000 vehicles at major entry points into the national capital on the first day of the campaign. The route of 217 trucks has also been diverted.

How effective was work from home?

The government had implemented Grape-4 to control pollution. Under this, 50 percent work from home was made mandatory in all the offices of Delhi. Under this, only 50 percent of the staff can work sitting in the office. By doing this, people will gather less and the movement of vehicles will also reduce. However, it has not had much impact on traffic. People have also had to face problems like traffic jams at many places in the past days. There is also a ban on transportation of construction material on unpaved roads. According to the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS), Delhi’s air is going to remain bad for the next few days.

The effect of NO PUC NO FUEL is visible?

Delhi government had started NO PUC NO FUEL campaign to control pollution. Under this, vehicles which do not have PUC will not be given fuel under any circumstances. After this rule of the government, formation of PUC has also become a record. On Thursday i.e. the first day of the campaign, 45479 PUCs have been formed. Before this i.e. when this campaign was announced on Wednesday, 31197 PUCs were formed. Whereas on Monday 17719 PUCs were formed. Meaning that after the government’s order, people should be continuously involved in getting the PUC made.

What did the minister say on the opposition’s question?

Delhi government minister Ashish Sood said on the allegations being made by the opposition on pollution that Kejriwal did not do any work in his time. No money was given to the sanitation workers. Transport not fixed. The central government which was doing the work of RRTS. Funds were not given in it. The Supreme Court had said that the money was to fund the campaign. Metro phase delayed.

Did not work properly on EV policy. Subsidy of Rs 45 crore which was to be given for purchasing the vehicle was not given. Today, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government will bring that money and take the EV policy forward. Due to these reasons pollution has increased in Delhi. Pollution is not a one day problem. Will have to work for a long time.
