Mumbai: To keep alive the memory of the players who made history, this initiative taken by the Mumbai Cricket Association to honor the work of its iconic players is highly commendable. Wankhede StadiumChief Minister said that this kind of honor can be done in the best way only in such a historical place Devendra Fadnavis said.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Fadnavis praised the contribution of luminaries like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Eknath Solkar, Dilip Sardesai, Diana Edulji and Ravi Shastri. Sunil Gavaskar bravely tackled fast bowlers without a helmet and gave a new direction to Indian cricket. Chief Minister said that Dilip Vengsarkar played the role of saving the team in difficult times.
Referring to Eknath Solkar’s immense fielding skills, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that even in today’s modern technology era, his fielding would have been unique. He said on this occasion that due to Dilip Sardesai’s performance abroad, Indian cricket got a new place. Acknowledging the contribution of Diana Edulji in the field of women’s cricket, he appreciated the progress made in women’s cricket. He also praised Ravi Shastri’s all-round performance as a player, coach and commentator.

Appreciating the innovative batting style of the star player of modern cricket, Suryakumar Yadav, Chief Minister Fadnavis said, “Suryakumar Yadav, a 360-degree player, is a great example of Mumbai’s cricketing culture. His performance has made Mumbai proud.” Regarding the cricket infrastructure in Mumbai, Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the government is committed to the conservation of small grounds in the city and to resolve issues related to old leases. We will also resolve issues that have been pending for 20-years, he said.

Chief Minister Fadnavis said that the state government will provide all possible support for the construction of a modern and large stadium in Mumbai. This stadium will have a capacity of approximately 60,000 to 80,000 spectators. It will be built in such a way that it will have excellent connectivity and a great view from any location, he said. However, no matter how many new stadiums are built, the importance of the Wankhede Stadium will remain. Wankhede will always remain iconic,” said the Chief Minister, assuring all-out support to the Mumbai Cricket Association.
