Veteran Indian pacer drops a massive statement on being unsold in the IPL auction

IPL 2025 Mega auctions are held in November last year in which all the ten franchises formed their respective teams for the upcoming edition. The number of changes in the retention rules resulted in few shocking buys ahead of the auction and huge spending of money by all the teams. On one hand, India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who was sold to Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore, came out to be the highest buy in IPL history, and many big names remain unsold.

One of the names was the veteran Indian fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who was shockingly not sold in the auctions. Umesh, who has played for four teams across Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Gujarat Titans, failed to attract any buyers for the coming seasons of IPL season.

The 37-year-old seamer has recently voiced his feelings over his IPL 2025 snub, labelling it “shocking” and “disturbing.”

“Everyone knows I wasn’t selected for the IPL this year. I have played for 15 years. It is very shocking for me (not being participated in the IPL 2025 auction). Why should I lie? It feels bad. After playing so much and playing close to 150 IPL matches, you don’t get selected. It’s shocking,” Unsold Umesh told Inside Sport.

“It’s upon the franchises and their strategies, or my came late in the auction, and they were not left with money. But, something has happened. I am very frustrated and disturbed. On that note, it’s all right. I cannot do anything about someone’s decision,” he further said.

Umesh has appeared in 148 IPL matches in fifteen years and has taken 144 wickets.

Before retiring, he said he would consider retiring the day he could not bowl at 140 kmph anymore. That’s when he would hang up his boots.

“After that, I had my leg surgery. I have been bowling up to now because I feel I can clock 140 kmph.” Once I won’t be able to bowl, I’ll quit cricket myself. I won’t have to tell this to anyone,” Umesh said.

Umesh has played 57 Tests for India, 75 ODIs, and 9 T20 Is.

Pitched in between the Tests, Umesh has taken 170, 106, and 12 wickets in Test, ODI, and T20Is respectively. Umesh, at the moment aged almost 35, played his last game for India in the World Test Championship in the final against Australia in June 2023.
