Renowned Telugu lyricist Tirumala Pallerlamudi Kulasekhar tragically passed away on Tuesday at the age of 53. Reports indicate that he was found in a critical condition on a roadside near Ameerpet, Hyderabad. Concerned bystanders alerted authorities, and Kulasekhar was rushed to Gandhi Hospital, where he succumbed to his condition later that night. A nurse recognized the revered lyricist, revealing the heartbreaking news to the public.
Born in Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh, in 1971, Kulasekhar began his career as a journalist before transitioning to cinema. His talent was first noticed by director Teja and media mogul Ramoji Rao, leading to his breakthrough in 2000 with the film Chitram. The love story film became a cult classic, marking the start of Kulasekhar’s illustrious career.
Kulasekhar’s lyrical genius produced chart-topping songs in iconic Telugu films such as Jayam, Santosham, Nuvvu Nenu, Gharshana, Bommarilluand Dil. Notable tracks include the folk anthem “Ranu Ranu Antune Chinnado” from Jayam and the evergreen “Gajuvaka Pilla” from Nuvvu Nenu. His patriotic composition, “Desham Manade Tejam Manade,” remains a staple during Independence Day celebrations.
The lyricist collaborated frequently with noted composer R.P. Patnaik, and their partnership resonated deeply with audiences. Despite a prolific career spanning over 100 films, Kulasekhar faced personal and professional setbacks, notably after directing his debut film Premalekha Raasawhich did not fare well at the box office. Post-2013, he retreated from the film industry, reportedly battling neurological issues, legal cases and complications from diabetes. He was even caught in a theft case in 2013. The Telugu film fraternity has expressed grief over his loss.
