In a surprise decision, Kerala selectors have dropped Sanju Samson from the squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Yes, Sanju has not been selected in Kerala's Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 team. The reason for Sanju not being selected in the team is quite interesting because before this 50 over tournament, the Kerala team had organized a three-day camp in which Sanju did not participate.
This is the reason why Sanju has been dropped from the team. Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) secretary Vinod S Kumar also said that only the players who attended the three-day camp have been considered for selection. Samson, who led Kerala in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024, had informed the KCA about his unavailability but despite this he has been shown the door.
Under Sanju's leadership, Kerala finished third in Group E in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. They missed out on a place in the knockouts as eventual champions Mumbai and Andhra progressed from the group. Samson was named in the 30-man probable list for the Vijay Hazare Trophy last week. However, after failing to report to the preparation camp, he was left out of the final 19-man squad announced on Tuesday, 17 December.
KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar told The Indian Express, “Sanju had sent an email saying that he would not be available for the camp. The team had held a small camp in Wayanad without him. Naturally, we only Those who were part of the sessions have been considered for selection. There has been no further discussion with them on this matter. Sachin's recovery period is till December 21, after which we will take a decision on his inclusion.”
