Vice President CP Radhakrishnan Sri Lanka Visit: A new chapter is going to be added in the diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka. Vice President of India CP Radhakrishnan will visit Colombo on a two-day official visit to Sri Lanka from April 19-20. The visit is particularly significant as it will be the first bilateral visit by any Vice President of India to Sri Lanka.

During his stay, Vice President Radhakrishnan of Sri Lanka President Anura will meet Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. Various bilateral issues including trade, security and energy cooperation are expected to be discussed in detail in these meetings. Apart from this, he will also interact with leaders and other dignitaries of the Indian community settled in Sri Lanka.
‘Neighbor First’ and ‘Vision Ocean’ emphasis on
Underlining the importance of this visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said that Sri Lanka is an integral and extremely important partner of India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ and ‘Vision Ocean’ (SAGAR) policy. According to the ministry, this visit is not just a formal diplomatic initiative, but also an important step towards strengthening mutual cooperation, stability and strategic balance in the Indian Ocean region.
The visit is being seen as an important continuation of the series of high-level contacts between the two countries in recent months. The main objective of these contacts is to give new momentum to bilateral relations, further expand economic, strategic and maritime cooperation and establish better coordination on common interests. Besides, this initiative is also considered important towards deepening the deep cultural, historical and people-to-people ties that have existed for thousands of years between India and Sri Lanka.
India’s immediate help in times of crisis
The visit comes at a time when Sri Lanka has expressed gratitude for the timely assistance provided by India during the recent fuel crisis arising out of the conflict in West Asia. Only last month, India had sent a consignment of 38,000 metric tonnes of fuel to Colombo, which brought great relief to the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi In a phone call between President and President Dissanayake on March 24, a commitment was made to work together to address global energy security and regional challenges. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar had also emphasized on ensuring regional stability in his discussion with his Sri Lankan counterpart Vijitha Herath on March 23. This visit of the Vice President is a big step towards taking these diplomatic efforts forward.
