Actually, the Constitution Amendment (131st Amendment) Bill was brought to amend the Women’s Reservation Act passed in 2023. After the Constitution Amendment Bill to implement 33 per cent reservation for women in assemblies and increase the number of Lok Sabha seats to 816 by 2029 was defeated, UP Women Commission vice-chairperson and BJP leader Aparna Yadav along with other BJP workers protested outside the Lucknow Assembly. During this, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s younger daughter-in-law Aparna protested by burning the flags of Samajwadi Party and Congress.

Aparna Yadav said, “Whatever happened in Parliament—where this bill could not be passed—reflects an affront to the dignity of women. The opposition has exposed its true face, and the women of the country will never forgive them. This happened in 1996, 1998, 2003 and now it has happened again in 2026. Their true face is anti-women; they do not want women from ordinary families to come forward.” They only want to promote their own families. In this dark night, I have come to protest against such mentality—which reflects the thinking of Dushasan and Duryodhana—and I am registering my protest by burning their flags and torching the dignity of women.”

Members of BJP Mahila Morcha protested outside the office of Samajwadi Party. UP Women Commission member Ritu Shahi said, “The bill with 33% reservation for women was supposed to be passed. It could not be passed. Why? Because the opposition cast 230 votes against it. The same opposition which has always claimed to support women’s reservation and talked about women’s empowerment, has now completely exposed its real face. Similarly, the opposition does not actually talk about the interests of the country; it always gives priority to its own interests. These The so-called traditional leaders have forced all of us women to struggle, and that is why we have come out on the streets, because our rights have been taken away from us.”
