Did the ball go into the drain or into the photographer’s bag? Funny confusion happened with Jake Fraser McGurk in BBL match

An interesting and comical incident was witnessed in the second match of the Big Bash League 2025-26 on Monday (December 15) in the match played between Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat. This incident came to light in the 15th over of Brisbane Heat’s innings, when Hugh Wiebgen hit a four off Matthew Spurs.

After hitting the four, the ball crossed the boundary, but suddenly disappeared from sight. After this the search for the ball started outside the field. Australia’s young star batsman Jake Fraser McGurk, playing for Melbourne Renegades, was seen lying outside the boundary looking for the ball, the video of which went viral on social media.

After some investigation, it was found that the ball was not stuck in any drain, but in the backpack of a photographer sitting near the boundary. After this the ball was recovered and the match started again.
