VietinBank has appointed Nguyen Tran Manh Trung – an employee of nearly two decades – as CEO, filling the position that had remained vacant for almost three years.

Trung took office on Thursday and will also serve as a member of the board of directors, according to a decision made at an extraordinary meeting.

Trung, 41, has been working at the bank for almost 20 years, including the last two as deputy CEO.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and banking from the National Economics University and a master’s degree in banking from the Banking Academy.

Trung began his career at VietinBank in 2005 as a corporate customer relations officer and has since held various roles, such as head of the large corporate clients department and director of the Hanoi branch.

The CEO position of the state-owned lender has been vacant since former CEO Tran Minh Binh became the chairman in September 2021.

The bank targets a pre-tax profit growth of nearly 10% to VND26.3 trillion (US$1 billion) this year.
