How did the accident happen?
Officials said the boat sank near Phu Quoc, Vietnam on ‘Hon Me Rut Ngoi’ When it capsized near the island, it was carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members. According to initial information, the tourists were enjoying boating and water activities in the sea, when the boat suddenly lost balance and overturned in the middle of the sea. After the accident, there was an outcry among the passengers and the rescue team present on the spot was immediately activated.

15 deaths confirmed
The speedboat that was the victim of this accident was going from Hoan Me Rut Island towards An Thoi port when the boat capsized about 400 meters away from the shore. The conditions at sea were bad at that time.
Due to strong waves, rescue workers faced great difficulty in carrying out the rescue operation. After the search operation, 15 deaths have been confirmed so far. At present, the cause of the accident is not immediately clear. Investigation is going on to find out the reason behind the accident.

Considering the seriousness of the incident, India’s Embassy in Vietnam has immediately started emergency assistance. To assist the affected Indian nationals and their families, the Embassy has set up special emergency control rooms in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
