Vietnam-Cambodia expressway planned with $3M budget
An expressway spanning over 175 km has been proposed at a cost of VND80.8 trillion ($3.17 million) to link Vietnam’s southwestern provinces with Cambodia.
The My Thuan Project Management Board under the Ministry of Transport announced on Wednesday that it had completed the preliminary feasibility study for the Ha Tien – Rach Gia – Bac Lieu Expressway and submitted it to the ministry.
The expressway is planned to start at Ha Tien International Border Gate in Ha Tien City, Kien Giang Province, and end at National Highway 1 in Bac Lieu City, Bac Lieu Province.
The project’s total length is approximately 175.5 km, featuring four lanes, two emergency lanes, and a design speed of 100 kph. The route will pass through four provinces in the Mekong Delta: Kien Giang (82 km), Hau Giang (18 km), Soc Trang (13 km), and Bac Lieu (25.3 km).
The expressway aims to connect the Ha Tien border gate with the existing Lo Te – Rach Soi Expressway and the planned Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway, creating a horizontal route that boosts socio-economic development in the region.

At a recent meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Can Tho City, the Ministry of Transport reported six expressways planned for the western region, totaling nearly 1,200 km with four to six lanes.
To date, over 120 km of expressways connecting HCMC to Can Tho have been put into operation, while 428 km are under construction and expected to be completed by 2025.
An additional 215 km are being studied for future investment.
The region aims to complete 600 km of expressways by the end of 2025 and 1,200 km by 2030, as mandated by the government.
