British magazine Time Out has published a list of the 19 most beautiful bridges in the world, with Vietnam’s Golden Bridge ranking 4th thanks to its unique design.
The Da Nang bridge surpassed many long-standing iconic structures such as the Brooklyn Bridge in the U.S. at 5th and the Sydney Harbor Bridge in Australia at 14th.
“The weathered stone hands holding Vietnam’s Golden Bridge may hint at historical significance, but this tourist attraction was made for the social media age,” Time Out wrote.
Located at an altitude of over 1,000 meters in the Sun World Ba Na Hills tourist area, the structure, measuring 150 meters in length, stands out with its design supported by two giant reinforced concrete hands.
It acquired global fame very soon after it opened in June 2018, attracting extensive international media coverage and drawing visitors from all over the world. It has also become a fixture in several annual international awards.
A cable-car ride transports visitors to the bridge-as-tourist-attraction, located roughly 1,000 meters above sea level.
The ranking was compiled by tourism experts using three core criteria: distinctive architectural design, seamless integration with the surrounding landscape, and prominence in international media coverage.
This periodic ranking aims to honor architectural works that perfectly combine construction techniques and aesthetic value, serving as tourism icons for their respective countries, Time Out said.
Stari Most in Bosnia and Herzegovina topped the list, followed by Double Decker Root Bridge in India and Victoria Falls Bridge in Zimbabwe.
