View old chats as soon as you join the group, know the process

WhatsApp’s new group message history feature

Joining a new group chat can sometimes be a bit overwhelming, especially when a discussion is already going on in the group. To solve this problem, WhatsApp has launched a new feature, named **Group Message History**. This feature helps new members to know what they have missed. Let us know about this feature in detail.

Benefits of this feature

Using the Group Message History feature is quite simple. When a new member joins the group, he does not need to provide information about old messages again and again. New members get to see recent important messages as soon as they join the group. This gives them the full context of the conversation and the discussion progresses without any interruption.

feature operation

When a new user is added to a WhatsApp group, group admins and older members can select whether they want to share recent messages with the new member. Instead of sharing the entire chat, they can send only 25 to 100 selected messages. This gives the new member the necessary information, so that they do not need to read old chats.

The company says that as soon as the message history is shared, all members of the group are notified about it. Additionally, sent messages have a clear timestamp and sender information, making them stand out from normal messages.

If group admins don’t want members to use this feature, they can turn it off. Still, admins will always have the option to share chat history if needed. This feature is being rolled out gradually and is **end-to-end encrypted**, like other personal messages.
