Tamil Nadu CM Vijay: C Joseph Vijay started a new chapter in the state’s politics by taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday. With the coming to power of Tamil Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay, a major change was seen in the long period of Dravidian politics in the state. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered him the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Along with him, nine ministers also took oath as ministers.

Sri Lankan President congratulated

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake congratulated Vijay on becoming the Chief Minister. Posting on social media platform X, he said that Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu are deeply linked by historical, cultural and economic ties. The Sri Lankan President also expressed his desire to further strengthen the partnership and economic cooperation between the two regions in the future. He said that under the strong relations between India and Sri Lanka, both sides will work together towards development and prosperity.

End of long rule of DMK and AIADMK

With Vijay becoming the Chief Minister, the nearly six decade long alternating rule of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) came to an end. This change in the politics of Tamil Nadu is being considered historic. Actor-turned-politician Vijay gained public support on the basis of his popularity and political campaign. A large number of supporters and many political personalities were present at his swearing-in ceremony.

Why is the relationship between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka special?

Cultural and historical relations between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka are very old. A large number of Tamil-speaking people live in Sri Lanka, which links the two regions culturally.
