Vijay Breaks Silence Amid Divorce Row With Wife Sangeetha, Urges Fans Not To Be ‘Hurt’ By Allegations

Tamil superstar and politician Thalapathy Vijay has spoken publicly for the first time amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his reported divorce from wife Sangeetha Sornalingam and allegations of infidelity. Addressing his supporters during a public event, the actor urged them not to be troubled by the controversy and asked them to focus on larger public issues instead.

The speculation around Vijay’s personal life intensified after reports surfaced that Sangeetha had filed for divorce in a court in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu. In her petition, she allegedly accused the actor of being involved in an extramarital relationship with an actress and cited mental cruelty, neglect and desertion as reasons for seeking dissolution of the marriage.

While the controversy quickly became a major talking point on social media and in political circles, Vijay chose not to address the allegations directly in detail. Instead, he responded indirectly during a Women’s Day event organised by his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Speaking to a gathering of party workers, the actor acknowledged the ongoing discussions about his personal life but urged supporters to remain focused on their social responsibilities.

“There are some issues running around in the recent past,” Vijay said while addressing the audience. He added that he could see many of his supporters feeling upset while defending him online and in public discussions. “I see all of you busy fighting those allegations and getting hurt. In fact, I get hurt seeing that you get hurt,” he said, assuring the crowd that he would handle the situation himself.

The actor went on to ask his followers not to worry about the controversy. According to him, the focus should remain on the welfare of people and the work his political party aims to carry out. “Don’t get hurt about that problem. It’s not worth bothering about. Let’s get involved in people’s problems,” Vijay said, adding that he remains confident that things will work out positively.

His remarks were met with loud applause from the audience, many of whom interpreted the statement as his response to the swirling divorce and cheating rumours. Although Vijay avoided mentioning names or specific details, the timing of the speech made it clear that he was addressing the ongoing controversy.

The divorce petition filed by Sangeetha has reportedly requested the dissolution of their marriage along with financial relief and the right to continue living in the couple’s residence in Chennai while the case proceeds. According to the filing, she sought an interim order allowing her to stay in the matrimonial home until the court reaches a final decision.

The controversy has also gained attention because it comes at a politically significant moment for Vijay. After launching Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in 2024, the actor is widely expected to play a major role in Tamil Nadu’s upcoming political landscape, with many supporters hoping he will contest the next state elections.

In recent days, social media discussions have also been fuelled by Vijay’s public appearance at a wedding event alongside actor Trisha Krishnan, which led to renewed speculation about their relationship. However, neither Vijay nor Trisha has addressed those rumours directly.
