New Delhi, December 16, 2025: India’s historic victory in the 1971 war The nation is celebrating Victory Day on December 16, 2025 to commemorate India’s historic victory in the 1971 war. On this occasion, President Smt. Draupadi Murmu paid tribute to all the brave soldiers whose bravery, commitment and patriotism always make the nation proud and will continue to inspire every citizen.
In a social media post, the President wrote that the ‘Empowerment through Indigenization’ initiative of the Indian Armed Forces reflects their commitment to be prepared for future challenges. “During Operation Sindoor, our armed forces demonstrated self-reliance, strategic resolve and effective use of modern warfare techniques, which is an inspiration for the entire nation.”

On the occasion of this day, the President has inaugurated the Paramveer Gallery at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Photographs of all 21 Param Veer Chakra (PVC) award winners are displayed in this gallery. Its objective is to make the visitors aware about the national heroes who displayed invincible spirit in defense of the nation. The President also honored the PVC Award winners and close people on this occasion. Defense Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
