TVK Vijay increases Stalin’s heartbeats; BJP is sidelined, political ‘game’ will be played in Tamil Nadu?

Tamil Nadu Politics: The political atmosphere is changing rapidly in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, where actor-turned-politician Vijay is emerging as a new political challenge amid the traditional battle of DMK and AIADMK alliance. Through the formation of TVK party and continuous big rallies, Vijay has made it clear that he wants to give a new direction to the politics of power. His Erode rally has created a stir in Tamil Nadu politics.

A direct contest is being considered between the DMK alliance and the AIADMK alliance for the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. This time, BJP’s alliance with AIADMK is also in the fray, but in this entire political scenario, actor-turned-politician Vijay has emerged as a different stream. Vijay has formed his own party called TVK and the crowds thronging his meetings indicate that he does not want to remain just a symbolic face.

Direct challenge to the existing power

A few months ago, more than 40 people had died in a stampede at Vijay’s rally in Karur. After that incident, questions were raised on his politics, but in the rally held in Erode, Vijay presented himself with full force as a big political alternative. From the stage, he described himself as the heir of Tamil Nadu’s tradition of social justice and talked about directly challenging the existing power.

Political message from the land of Erode

At the Erode rally, Vijay started his speech by identifying the district. He described Erode as Manjal i.e. the land of turmeric and said that it is a symbol of the hard work and life of the common people. Referring to the plight of turmeric farmers, Vijay asked whether governments have taken any concrete steps to save their livelihood. Encouraged by the response of the crowd, he cited the example of the 13th century Kalingarayan dam and canal system and recalled the legacy of the medieval chieftain Kalingarayan.

Vijay said that Kalingarayan got the courage to build from the self-confidence he inherited from his mother. Describing mothers and women as a source of courage, he said that today they too are getting the same strength from the public. During this emotional appeal, applause and slogans further heated the atmosphere of the rally.

Strong attack on DMK

In his speech, Vijay clearly said that efforts are being made to stop him by spreading defamatory stories against him. He said that his relationship with the public is not new but is 30 to 33 years old. Recalling his childhood as an artiste, Vijay said that he has been in front of people since the age of ten and this relationship is not going to be broken by any conspiracy.

Political message in the name of veterans

Vijay directly engaged the crowd in dialogue by asking questions from the stage and expressed confidence that the public will never leave him alone. After this he directly attacked the ruling DMK and said that Erode is the birthplace of Thanthai Periyar. He described Periyar as an icon of social justice and said that both Annadurai and MG Ramachandran had drawn their political values from the same heritage.

Vijay said that no single party can have monopoly on Periyar, Anna or MGR. He asked DMK that if there is no fear of TVK then why is there so much nervousness. During question and answer session with the crowd, Vijay made it clear that his political enemy is DMK, while his ideological enemy is BJP and this is enough to understand.

Questions to the government on local issues

Coming back to the local issues of Erode, Vijay said that nothing was done for turmeric farmers and the manifesto promises were not fulfilled. He raised the issue of increase in electricity rates and said that small industries and businessmen are being badly affected by this. Vijay also raised questions on purchasing electricity from private companies and the tender process.

Taking a dig at DMK’s claims of model governance, Vijay said that politics is not just about speeches but raising the problems of the people on the ground. He clarified that he is not against welfare schemes, but opposes the mentality of calling them charity. Vijay said that TVK does not sell false dreams but does politics of respect and self-respect.

Political pundits believe that this entire speech of Vijay indicates that Vijay has decided the direction of his fight in Tamil Nadu politics. Not only this, he is trying to establish himself as an alternative to DMK. For this reason he has not described BJP and AIADMK as his rivals.

In the Erode rally, Vijay repeatedly expressed that his politics is based on the trust of the people. He said that his strength is not huge money but the unconditional love of the people. Vijay attacked those doing politics in the name of Periyar and said that social reformers never added wealth. The statement signals a direct clash in Tamil Nadu politics, where Vijay is trying to portray himself as the real voice of social justice.
