Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025: Bihar made world record with the stormy batting of Suryavanshi and Sakibul Ghani.
Ranchi. A stellar performance by the batsmen led by Indian cricket’s young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi and captain Sakibul Ghani helped Bihar score 574 runs for six wickets in a match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy cricket tournament, which is a new world record for the highest score in an innings in List A.
In this plate group match, Bihar’s batsmen left no stone unturned to demolish the weak bowling attack of Arunachal Pradesh. Ghani (128 runs in 40 balls) completed his century in just 32 balls, which is a new record for the fastest century for India in List A cricket. Earlier, Suryavanshi scored 190 runs in 84 balls which included 16 fours and 15 sixes. He completed his century in only 36 balls. Wicketkeeper Ayush Loharuka also contributed by scoring 116 runs in 56 balls. Bihar hit 49 fours and 38 sixes in its innings. Thanks to centuries from Suryavanshi, Gani and Loharuka, Bihar broke Tamil Nadu’s previous record of highest score in List A. Tamil Nadu had scored 506 runs for two wickets against Arunachal Pradesh in November 2022. Earlier, the record of the fastest century from India in List A was in the name of Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh, who scored a century in 35 balls against the same team in 2024.
Suryavanshi achieved this feat just three days after the defeat in the final of the Under-19 Asia Cup against Pakistan in UAE. Ghani hit 10 fours and 12 sixes, while Loharuka hit 11 fours and eight sixes. The world record for the fastest century in this format is held in the name of Australia’s Jake Fraser McGurk (29 balls). He made this record against Tasmania while playing for South Australia in the 2023-24 season. The record for the fastest century in One Day International cricket is in the name of South Africa’s AB de Villiers (31 balls). He achieved this feat against West Indies in Johannesburg.
Suryavanshi now holds the record for being the youngest player to score a List A century. Meanwhile, wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan celebrated his return to the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup by scoring a century in 33 balls for Jharkhand against Karnataka in an Elite Group A match in Ahmedabad. Kishan scored 125 runs in 39 balls with the help of seven fours and 14 sixes. With this inning, Jharkhand, batting first, scored 412 runs for nine wickets.
