Karnataka shines in Vijay Hazare Trophy, shatters 13-year-old record by winning the match
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26: December 24 was a special day for the record books in Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. First Bihar registered the biggest win in tournament history by margin of runs and now Karnataka has made the record of the biggest run chase. This high-scoring match of Group A was played between Jharkhand and Karnataka at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which created a new history in List-A cricket.
Jharkhand’s huge score with Ishan Kishan’s century
Batting first after the toss, Jharkhand scored 412 runs in 50 overs on the basis of captain Ishan Kishan’s brilliant century. Kishan played an aggressive inning of 125 runs, due to which Jharkhand was successful in reaching a very strong score. Karnataka had a mountain-like target of 413 runs, which was not considered easy to achieve.
Historic run chase led by Devdutt Padikkal
While chasing the target, Karnataka team batted without any fear. Opener Devdutt Padikkal laid the foundation of the run chase by playing an excellent inning of 147 runs. Karnataka achieved the target in 47.3 overs for the loss of 5 wickets and registered the biggest successful run chase in Vijay Hazare Trophy history.
Andhra’s 13 year old record broken
With this victory, Karnataka broke Andhra’s 13-year-old record. Andhra had successfully chased 384 runs against Goa in 2012, which has now been left behind. Apart from Padikkal, Abhinav Manohar and Dhruv Prabhakar also played important roles in the match against Jharkhand. Both of them made a partnership of 88 runs for the sixth wicket. Abhinav scored 56 runs, while Dhruv Prabhakar played a useful inning of 40 runs.

This victory of Karnataka has become the second biggest successful run chase in the history of List-A format in world cricket. In the first place is the South African team, which chased 435 runs against Australia in the year 2006. Karnataka has now reached second place in this list.
