Vijay Hazare Trophy: Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history by scoring a century in 36 balls, List A cricket came out on top

Vijay Hazare Trophy: Indian cricket’s rising star Vaibhav Suryavanshi is continuously creating havoc with his bat. Now he has created history in List A cricket. He has become the youngest batsman to score a century. At the age of 14 years and 272 days, Vaibhav has scored a century in 36 balls while playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh on the first day of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

This was only Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s seventh List A match after making his debut against Madhya Pradesh in December 2025. Vaibhav completed his century in just 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate League match in Ranchi – his first non-T20I century in senior cricket. However, Vaibhav missed the double century by just 10 runs. He was out against Arunachal Pradesh after scoring 190 runs in 84 balls. This innings included 16 fours and 15 sixes.

Suryavanshi, who is set to play in India’s Under-19 World Cup campaign in Zimbabwe and Namibia, had scored 171 off 95 balls in the Under-19 Asia Cup in the UAE earlier this month. During that innings, he fell just six runs short of Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing India record in youth ODIs – 177 against England at Taunton in 2002. In 15 Youth ODIs, Suryavanshi averages 51.13, including two centuries and three half-centuries, and has an impressive strike rate of 158.79.

Last month in Doha, Suryavanshi scored the joint-third fastest century by an Indian in men’s T20 when he scored 144 off 42 balls against UAE in the Rising Stars Asia Cup. He completed his century that day in 32 balls, and in the process recorded the joint-sixth fastest century in all men’s T20Is. Soon after that tournament, Suryavanshi also became the youngest century-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he scored an unbeaten 108 off 61 balls against Maharashtra in Kolkata earlier this month.

The year 2025 has been very good for Suryavanshi. After becoming the youngest player in the IPL auction at the age of 13, he became the youngest player to score a century (101 off 38 balls) in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans. Suryavanshi played a total of seven games, in which he scored 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.55. After the IPL, Suryavanshi scored youth centuries in England and Australia; The tour of England was particularly beneficial for him as he scored 355 runs at a strike rate of 174.01.

Suryavanshi is likely to be available only for the first few matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, after which he will join the India Under-19 team for a conditioning camp in Bengaluru before the team leaves for Zimbabwe for the World Cup starting on January 15.
