Vijay Hazare Trophy: Virat-Pant’s half-centuries… Rohit fell to zero, Maharashtra defeated Sikkim by 8 wickets
Delhi. Thanks to the second consecutive half-century of star batsman Virat Kohli (77) and brilliant innings of captain Rishabh Pant (70), Delhi scored 254 runs for nine wickets in 50 overs on Friday in the Elite Group D match of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Gujarat. Virat, who scored a century in the last match, continued his form in this match, scoring 77 runs in 61 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six, while Pant hit eight fours and two sixes in 70 runs in 79 balls. Harsh Tyagi contributed 40 runs and Simarjeet Singh contributed 15 unbeaten runs. For Gujarat, Vishal Jaiswal took the maximum of four wickets for 42 runs.
Hitman fell to zero
Star batsman and former Indian captain Rohit Sharma fell for a duck on Friday in the elite Group C match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Uttarakhand but Mumbai managed a strong score of 331 runs for seven wickets. Last match’s century-scorer Rohit was dismissed by Devendra Singh Bora. But Musheer Khan (55), Sarfaraz Khan (55) and Hardik Tamore contributed unbeaten 93 runs to help Mumbai reach a strong score. Shams Mulani scored 48 runs. For Uttarakhand, Bora was the most successful by taking three wickets for 74 runs.
Maharashtra defeated Sikkim by 8 wickets
With the lethal bowling of Player of the Match Rajvardhan Hangargekar (four wickets for 21 runs), Maharashtra defeated Sikkim by eight wickets with 192 balls remaining in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group C match on Friday. After winning the toss and bowling first, Maharashtra bowled out Sikkim for 150 runs and won the match by scoring 153 runs for two wickets in 18 overs. For Maharashtra, Prithvi Shaw scored 51, Arshin Kulkarni scored 40 and captain Rituraj Gaikwad scored 38 not out. Apart from Hangargekar’s four wickets, Ramakrishna Ghosh took three wickets in Sikkim’s innings.
Baroda defeated Bengal by 4 wickets
Thanks to the lethal bowling of Raj Limbani (five wickets for 65 runs), Baroda defeated Bengal by four wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Elite Group B match on Friday. After bowling out Bengal for 205 runs in 38.3 overs, Baroda won the match by scoring 209 runs for six wickets in 38.5 overs. Baroda captain Krunal Pandya played match-winning innings of 57 runs and Priyanshu Molia of 52 runs. Raj Limbani received the Player of the Match award for his excellent bowling.
