Vingroup, controlled by Southeast Asia’s richest man Pham Nhat Vuong, hires Youtuber as CEO of film studio

“V-Film aims to build a cinematic ecosystem where Vietnamese stories are told through the most modern language, helping turn culture into a source of national soft power,” Viet, 34, said in a statement issued by Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest company by market cap.

“We believe Vietnam is fully capable of producing outstanding cinematic works that can reach global audiences through the depth of its own culture and national spirit.”

Among V-Film’s first projects will be a TV series based on the Tran Dynasty, which fought off the Mongol-led Yuan Dynasty forces and effected transfers of power and other choices that changed the fate of the nation.

Its script for the first season, consisting of 10 episodes, is ready and casting is under way. The filming is expected to begin in July. The series is scheduled to premiere in December this year.

Vingroup announced the addition of culture as a business pillar in November 2025 and established three companies including V-Film Cinema Development Jsc. The company has interests also in film distribution, photography, sound recording, and music publishing.

Viet graduated with a degree in multimedia communications from Cameron University in the U.S. before returning to Vietnam to make vlogs.

One of Vietnam’s prominent early-generation vloggers, he was the first Vietnamese content creator to receive YouTube’s Gold Play Button and was named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Asia list in 2016.

Since late 2015, his vlog production frequency has gradually declined. He made his first short film, “A Path Where No Man Goes,” which was released in 2019.
