Vingroup offers to build Can Gio – Vung Tau bridge to slash travel time to 10 minutes
A proposal submitted by Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate, which wants to build it, to the HCMC People’s Committee, seeks to build it under a public–private partnership model on a build–transfer basis.
The road will run between Bien Dong 2 Street in the Can Gio reclaimed urban area and 30 Thang 4 Street in Vung Tau mostly over Ghenh Rai Bay that separates the two places.

It will include a 3.1-km tunnel, nearly eight kilometers of bridges, and three kilometers of approach roads.
It will require around 137.5 ha of land on shore.
The cost will be shared in cash by Vingroup and the government, whose share will be in land.
Vingroup expects to start construction next year and take three years.
It has asked the city to approve the pre-feasibility report soon and opt for the special investor selection mechanism to speed up progress. This mechanism allows competent authorities to use flexible, non-competitive investor-selection methods for sensitive, strategic, technically specialized, or urgent projects to protect confidentiality, speed implementation, and meet priority development goals, while remaining subject to the amended bidding law and implementing regulations.
It said both Can Gio and Vung Tau have great potential for eco-tourism, industrial zones, seaports, and logistics, but lack a direct transport link between themselves.
Travel between them requires a detour via National Highway 51 or using the Can Gio – Vung Tau ferry, taking 90–120 minutes.

The road will support the development of the Can Gio coastal tourism area and Long Son Industrial Zone, enhance operations at the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port cluster, and reduce traffic on National Highway 51 and Road 965.
The quickest commute now is by ferry, which plies between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. every day.
Vingroup is also developing the 2,870-hectare Can Gio coastal urban area, and has offered to build a metro line between Can Gio and downtown Ho Chi Minh City at a cost of around $3.3 billion.
