Virat Kohli and ex-New Zealand rugby icon Dan Carter meet ahead of IPL 2026
Virat Kohli, the star batter of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), recently met rugby legend Dan Carter ahead of IPL 2026, which kicks off on Saturday, March 28.
Dan Carter is a former rugby star who played for the Crusaders in Super Rugby and was a key member of New Zealand’s national team, the All Blacks.
Kohli was spotted in a casual brown shirt paired with black pants and sandals, while Carter sported a casual white t-shirt, light brown pants, and white shoes. The two sports stars shared a light moment, posing for a picture, with Carter adding a playful caption featuring a rugby and cricket emoji along with a handshake emoji to emphasise the connection between the two sports.
Virat Kohli also reposted Dan Carter’s post on his Instagram story.
“Pleasure meeting you @dancarter_,” he wrote.
RCB’s IPL 2026 journey begins on March 28 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They are the defending champions, having won their maiden title in 2025. RCB will aim to defend their crown this season.
Kohli, who has recently joined the RCB camp, participated in the first practice session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Although Kohli has been on a break, he was among the runs in the last ODI series.
In the series against South Africa, he amassed 302 runs from three matches at an average of 151, with a strike rate of 117.05, including two centuries and a half-century. In the series against New Zealand, he scored 240 runs in three matches at an average of 80 and a strike rate of 105.26, with one century and a half-century.
With Kohli in excellent form, RCB will look for him to bring the same attacking mindset to IPL 2026. His role will be crucial for the team’s chances to retain their title, as he continues to play an important part in leading the charge with an aggressive approach at the top of the order.
