“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will bounce back”: England pacer expresses confidence in two star players
Ahead of India’s upcoming white-ball series against England, Tymal Mills opened up about the struggles of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both Indian stars have faced significant criticism following their underwhelming performances in the 1-3 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite the heavy scrutiny, Mills remains confident that both players will rediscover their form but joked that he hoped it wouldn’t happen during the series against England.
“Both have faced tough times before and emerged stronger, so they’ll know exactly what it takes to get back on track,” Mills said in an interview with Times of India. Although he wouldn’t be surprised if Kohli and Rohit found their rhythm soon, he hoped it wouldn’t be against his team. The two Indian batters are in focus after bad outings in Australia, with Rohit managing just 31 runs in five innings, while Kohli, despite a century in the first Test, ended the series with only 190 runs at an average of 23.75.
Mills also pointed out that their past achievements prove their quality. “You don’t get the reputation for scoring the amount of runs these guys have amassed. It’s because they’re two of the best players to have ever played the game,” he noted. He believes their experience and resilience will help them counter challenging times. “They are better equipped to navigate both the highs and lows, and their strong confidence in their abilities will guide them through,” Mills added.
Rohit and Kohli are set to return to action in India’s three-match ODI series against England in February, which will be their last ODI fixtures before the 2025 Champions Trophy. Despite their recent struggles, Mills is confident the duo will bounce back, but with a hope that it won’t come at England’s expense.
