Virat Kohli ends more than 12-year-old wait, confirms his availability for premier tournament

Virat Kohli has agreed to play Ranji Trophy to save his career and central contract. The veteran didn’t make himself available for the upcoming match against Saurashtra on January 23 due to a neck sprain. However, the strict warning and head coach Gautam Gambhir’s refusal to change his stance on domestic cricket has made him fall in line. He is not the only cricketer who has decided to report for domestic duty.

Rohit Sharma, who was not willing to confirm his availability for the red-ball match against Jammu & Kashmir despite training with Mumbai, announced his return to the four-day format after meeting with the chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Gambhir before the announcement of the teams for the ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

According to reports, Virat has informed the officials of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) that he would be representing Delhi against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on January 30.

According to the new rules and regulations, a player will have to compete in domestic tournaments to be eligible for the national team and central contract.

Kohli will play a Ranji Trophy match after more than 12 years. He last played a match in the premier tournament in November 2012 when Delhi took on Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit assured the Mumbai Cricket Association that they would play against J&K on January 23. Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja will represent Punjab and Saurashtra, respectively. Mohammed Siraj has made up his mind to play for Hyderabad, and KL Rahul is also expected to wear Karnataka’s jersey on January 30.
