Virat Kohli lags behind in the race, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s excellent performance continues

New Delhi. In IPL 2026, the bat of Rajasthan Royals’ young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi has roared in such a way that even the big giants have been left behind. At the age of just 15, Vaibhav has completely taken over the Orange Cap race. In the eliminator match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he not only led his team to victory by playing an explosive inning of 97 runs but also put himself at the forefront in the race for the Orange Cap.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has now become the highest run-scorer in IPL 2026. He has scored 680 runs in 15 matches at an excellent average of 45.33 and a stormy strike rate of 242.86. This season, 55 fours and 65 skyscraper sixes have come from his bat. Not only this, he has also become the first batsman in IPL history to cross the 600-run mark in a season with a strike rate of more than 200.

His innings of 97 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad surprised the entire cricket world. In this innings, he thrashed the bowlers not only with fours but also with long sixes. By hitting 12 sixes and 5 fours, Vaibhav showed that he is not just a future star but also one of the most dangerous T20 batsmen of the present time.

However, the battle for the Orange Cap is not over yet. The biggest threat to Vaibhav Suryavanshi is from Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudarshan. Sudarshan is currently at second position with 652 runs and there is a difference of only 28 runs between the two batsmen. The special thing is that now the Qualifier-2 match is to be played between Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans. In such a situation, it can be decided in this match which player will be adorned with the orange cap.

Apart from Sai Sudarshan, Gujarat Titans captain Shubhman Gill is also in this race. Gill has 618 runs in his name this season and if he plays a big innings in Qualifier-2, the picture of the Orange Cap can change completely. If Gujarat reaches the final, both Gill and Sudarshan will get a chance to play an additional match, which will further strengthen their claim.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli is now seen far behind in this race. The star batsman of Royal Challengers Bangalore has scored 600 runs in 15 matches this season and is ranked sixth in the Orange Cap list. RCB has already reached the final by winning Qualifier-1, so Virat has only one chance left to increase his runs.

  • This is the reason why now the real battle for Orange Cap seems to be between Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill. But seeing the form in which Vaibhav is batting, it seems that it will not be easy for any batsman to snatch the Orange Cap from him.
