After India’s series-clinching win over South Africa on Saturday, Virat Kohli and pacer Arshdeep Singh shared a fun moment in a hilarious video posted by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) social media handle.
In the match, India restricted SOuth Africa to 270, thanks to brillant four wicket hauls from Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav. Chasing the target, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma put on solid 155-run partnership, with Jaiswal scoring a century and Rohit contributing 75 runs. Virat Kohli finished the chase in style with a quick 65 off 45 balls, sealing India’s nine-wicket victory and the 2-1 series triumph.
Notably, Virat Kohli entered the third ODI on the back of two consecutive centuries in the series. In a playful video shared by his IPL franchise, Punjab Kings (PBKS), Arshdeep Singh joked that if India’s target had been higher, Kohli might have been on his way to a third consecutive century.
“Paaji, run kam rehgaye, century aaj pakki thi waise (Brother, the target wasn’t big enough, otherwise a century seemed certain),” Arshdeep said.
Kohli playfully responded, saying, “Toss jeet gaye, nahi toh teri bhi pakki thi dew mein, (Be thankful we won the toss or even you have been hit for a century in the dew!).“
Dew played a crucial role in the series decider, prompting India to bowl first. As the evening progressed, the moisture in the outfield made life difficult for South Africa’s bowlers later in the match.
Batting first, the Proteas suffered an early setback when Ryan Rickelton fell for a duck. However, a strong 113-run partnership between Quinton de Kock (106 off 89 balls, including eight fours and six sixes) and captain Temba Bavuma (48 off 67 balls) steadied the innings.
De Kock later added 54 runs with Matthew Breetzke (24 off 23 balls), but once Prasidh Krishna (4/66) broke through, South Africa slipped from a solid position of 199/2 to 234/5. Dewald Brevis (29 off 29) and Marco Jansen (17 off 15) attempted to rebuild, but a brilliant spell from Kuldeep Yadav (4/41) wrapped up the innings, restricting South Africa to 270 in 47.5 overs.
India made the chase look easy. Rohit Sharma (75 off 73 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal added a commanding 155 runs for the first wicket. Jaiswal went on to score his maiden ODI century, finishing unbeaten on 116 off 121 balls. Virat Kohli chipped in with a fluent 65* off 45 balls as India chased down the target in just 39.5 overs, sealing a dominant series win.
