Virat Kohli Likely to Miss Delhi’s Ranji Trophy Match Against Saurashtra Because of Neck Sprain
Virat Kohli has a neck sprain and might miss Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra. Delhi will play Saurashtra in Rajkot from January 23 to 26. According to a Times of India report, Kohli took an injection for his neck sprain.
“Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left, and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update,” A source told TOI.
According to a senior DDCA official, Kohli’s name will likely be added to the squad with ‘subject to availability’ next to it.
Kohli, who last played a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi in 2012, may still train with his Delhi teammates in Rajkot even if he doesn’t play in the match.
The Delhi squad is set to leave for Rajkot on Monday, January 20, and will have two training sessions before the match.
Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, and some DDCA officials expect him to also play in the team’s second match against Railways.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made it compulsory for all Indian players to participate in domestic matches.
According to BCCI guidelines, players must participate in domestic matches to stay eligible for national team selection and central contracts.
Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action as determined by the BCCI. The BCCI also reserves the right to take action against a player, which could include (i) banning the player from participating in all BCCI-run tournaments, including the Indian Premier League, and (ii) deducting from the player’s retainer or match fees under their BCCI contract.
