Virat Kohli skips spotlight, visits Premanand Ji Maharaj amid Messi tour
Virat Kohli’s return to India almost perfectly overlapped with Lionel Messi’s much-hyped GOAT India Tour, sparking speculation over a possible meeting between two of the biggest sporting icons of the modern era. Instead of joining the spotlight surrounding Messi’s visit, Kohli chose a more private and reflective path.

The star Indian batsman spent time in Vrindavan with his wife, actor Anushka Sharma, paying a spiritual visit to Premanand Ji Maharaj. The couple visited the revered saint at his ashram, Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj at Varah Ghat, engaging in an intimate spiritual interaction away from public attention. Videos from the visit quickly went viral, showing Kohli and Anushka listening intently as Premanand Ji Maharaj addressed them.

In a video shared by Bhajan Marg’s official Instagram handle, Premanand Ji Maharaj advised the couple to view their professional work as an offering to the divine.
“Considere your work as God’s own. Remain with a serious heart. Remain humble. And chant your name,” he said, urging them to remain humble, sincere and dedicated in their pursuits.
This marked Kohli and Anushka’s third visit to Vrindavan this year, highlighting how frequently they return to the town for spiritual reflection. Earlier in January, the couple had visited the ashram along with their children, Vamika and Akaay, to seek blessings. They also met Premanand Ji Maharaj a day after Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket in May.
The visit came shortly after the couple returned to India from the UK, around the same time Messi arrived for his multi-city tour across Kolkata, Hyderabad and Mumbai. While Messi’s presence drew global attention and celebrity interactions, Kohli’s quiet retreat underlined his preference for personal balance over public spectacle.
Kohli remains active in limited-overs cricket and the Indian Premier League. He is set to feature in a few matches for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, beginning December 24, before rejoining the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11.
The 37-year-old had earlier flown back to the UK after India’s ODI series against South Africa concluded on December 6. Kohli and Anushka currently reside in the UK with their children.
